ABUJA - The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has taken approximately 300 people into custody following a raid on suspected criminal hideouts, shanties and uncompleted buildings across Abuja and other parts of the Territory.
The operation, conducted on September 19, 2026, targeted locations identified as potential centres of criminal activity as part of efforts to prevent crime and improve security.
Items recovered during the exercise included knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit drugs, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
The police said those arrested were undergoing screening and profiling to establish whether they had committed any offences. Suspects found to have cases to answer would be charged to court, while those cleared of wrongdoing would be released after the necessary checks.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, said the command would sustain intelligence-led operations against criminal activities, particularly in areas identified as security flashpoints.
Sanusi also warned young people and other residents against the abuse of illicit drugs, noting that substance abuse could impair judgment, encourage violent behaviour and expose individuals and communities to security risks. He advised those struggling with drug use to seek counselling and rehabilitation support.
The police commissioner further cautioned officers involved in the raids against extortion, intimidation, harassment and unlawful demands for money, warning that anyone found engaging in such misconduct would face disciplinary action.
The command urged residents to provide credible and timely information about suspicious activities and suspected criminal hideouts in their communities.
